Welcome to my first Substack post! Thank you for subscribing to Enjoy sight unseen, it means a lot. If you’re here, you probably already know me so let’s just get into it. I have been hemming and hawing over launching this thing for over a year now and have come up with countless reasons not to. Most of the excuses I told myself were aesthetic—I needed a gorgeous logo! But really: I have been writing for other media outlets and brands for so long that I’ve become fearful about writing for myself (!!!). So I’m just going to take it slow and focus on consistency and see where this experiment takes us.

The focus of ENJOY is sharing thoughts on enjoying life. I see enjoyment as an evolution of the recent self-care movement, where activities like bubblebaths or face masks were kind of forced upon us in such a way that they ended up becoming a chore. No thank you! I’m more interested in radical self care, prioritizing things we actually get pleasure from and being (dare I say) selfish about our time and energy—whenever life permits, I suppose. Of course everyone’s situation is different (I’m single, self-employed and live alone so it’s pretty easy for me to focus on myself) but surely we can all find some moments of self indulgence?
You can expect an enjoyable delivery every Friday ahead of the weekend when hopefully we all have a bit of free time to let loose and maybe even ignore the world. I’ll be including interviews with people I find inspiring on what they enjoy about their lives so expect those coming up, very excited about this. I’ve also been experimenting with some film photography which is very new/old for me! And I’ll be mixing in whatever I feel like along the way, maybe places to be and things to see and do. Consider it an evolution of what I’ve been writing about for 10+ years.

When I was interning in the fashion closet at Flare magazine way back when, one of the editors I reported to would often advise us to “get over it” or to “get with it,” wise words I often come back to when faced with one of life’s dilemmas. So in the spirit of getting over it, here we go! Starting small, I’ve got one thing for you to enjoy this week:

Feud: Capote vs. The Swans premiers on January 31. It’s an eight-part mini series that takes a look at Truman Capote’s tumultuous relationship with New York socialites and has a bonkers cast—Demi Moore! Chloë Sevigny! Naomi Watts! Calista Flockhart! I *think* you can stream it on Disney+ in Canada, but it’s unlikely that I’ll be able to tune in this week as I’ll be in Mexico (more on that later!). For me, February is all about filling dreary winter nights with excellent television and I think Feud will be the perfect escape.
If you’re looking for a show to watch this weekend, I just wrapped The Curse with Emma Stone, Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie and definitely recommend. Let me know what you thought of the controversial ending! It really gave me a good laugh.
TGIF my loves! Thanks for dropping by and I’ll see you next week. 💖
Love this for you and can't wait to read more <3
